Marubeni Commits to Promote Environmental Consideration in its Business in IndonesiaMonday, 18 December 2017
As a global corporation that engages in diverse business activities, Marubeni commits to promote environmental consideration into all business activities around the globe, including in Indonesia. Marubeni’s business activities should be conducted in consideration of their possible impact on the environment. Through a cooperation with related stakeholders to preserve the environment and reduce potential environmental impacts by focusing on the four themes below:
1. Compliance with the applicable environmental guidelines, laws and regulations, and agreed requirements
2. Taking measures as necessary to reduce environmental impacts and prevent pollution
3. Facilitating resource and energy conservation, waste reduction, and green procurement
4. Promoting business projects, offering products and services, technical development and building social systems that help protect and improve the environment.
In Indonesia, Marubeni attempts to support Indonesian government in promoting environmentally friendly project by establishing some clean energy projects. Marubeni has developed geothermal power projects in Indonesia as part of the company’s commitment to preserve environment i.e. PLTP Patuha Unit 1 (1x55 MW), PLTP Rantau Dedap (2x110 MW) and PLTP Kamojang Unit 2&3 (2x55 MW). As one of key players in power plant business in Indonesia, Marubeni will keep seeking for any possible opportunities to develop clean energy business in Indonesia.
Besides in energy sector, Marubeni also plays forestry business in Indonesia through PT. Musi Hutan Persada (MHP) that engages in industrial forest management for supplying pulp materials which is located in Palembang, South Sumatera. The product is mainly supplied to PT. Tanjung Enim Pulp & Paper (TEL) which is also part of Marubeni Group. MHP has obtained ISO 14001:2004 which proves MHP’s strong commitment in environmental management. MHP also applies policy on forest management for sustainable production (PHPL) and policy on controlled wood as obliged by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). MHP and TEL also applies various CSR activities which support environmental sustainability.
Marubeni believes that sustained growth is a realistic goal which can be achieved, in line with Marubeni’s spirit which consists of Fairness, Innovation, and Harmony.
