Marubeni Grants 7th Scholarship to Sriwijaya University

To support young's people education and upbringing in emerging countries, Marubeni has established Marubeni Scholarship Foundation mainly in the ASEAN region, including Indonesia, established in 1999 under the name of "Yayasan Beasiswa Marubeni".

The scholarship is an application of Marubeni Corporation's corporate social responsibility ("CSR"), which shows the company's commitment to support students who have financial difficulties but have good academic achievements, as well as to strengthen its social contribution to Indonesia. Sriwijaya University has become one of the company's CSR targets by having disbursed scholarships to the university since 2008.

November 26, 2014 marked the seventh year of scholarship granting to Sriwijaya University by Marubeni Corporation (which has two subsidiaries in Palembang i.e. PT Tanjung Enim Lestari ("PT TEL") and PT Musi Hutan Persada ("PT MHP")) through Yayasan Beasiswa Marubeni. The number of students of Sriwijaya University who will receive a scholarship is 27 students, of which each will receive IDR 4 million in the first year.

The foundation also committed to disburse scholarships until the recipients have graduated from the university, as long as the students are able to maintain their academic achievement and do not violate rules set by the foundation. The foundation intends to support and keep the spirit of the students to study and learn in order to make them finish their study on schedule.

The ceremony took place at the Rectorate Building of Sriwijaya University and the scholarship was officially submitted by the Chairman of Advisory Board of Yayasan Beasiswa Marubeni as well as the President Director of PT. Marubeni Indonesia, Mr. Hiroshi Nakagawa, accompanied by the Finance Director of PT Marubeni Indonesia, Mr. Akinobu Mizumoto,

The event was also attended by the President Director of PT TEL, Mr. Takashi Hashimoto, and the President Director of PT MHP, Mr. Shigeru Shimoda. Five and four alumnae of Sriwijaya University working at PT TEL and PT MHP also attended the event, and two of them representing the alumnae gave a motivational speech to the students.

A student representing the scholarship recipients, Mr. Pranata Wiguna from the Faculty of Engineering, also gave a speech. He expressed his gratitude for being accepted as one of Marubeni's scholarship recipients. He thanked Marubeni on the point that from now on he can focus on his study without thinking of tuition fees and living cost. Pranata said that the scholarship has encouraged him to improve his study achievement.

Marubeni Corporation has committed and strives to continue to fulfill its corporate responsibilities as a member of the international community by providing financial assistance for education purposes in Indonesia.
