Marubeni Supports Studio Ghibli Inc in the World of Ghibli Jakarta’s Series of EventSenin, 11 December 2017
Japanese film and animation fans in Indonesia receive good news along with the announcement of The World of Ghibli Jakarta, a series of film screenings and exhibition to celebrate the works of the famed Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli Inc. This event is presented through a partnership between Marubeni, Kaninga Pictures, and Hakuhodo DY Media Partners. This event is dedicated to all Ghibli’s enthusiast in Indonesia and as a pathway to introduce Studio Ghibli and its creations to the general audience.
The event planning has been started since mid of 2016 where the committee consists of Indonesian creative industry workers such as a well-known Indonesian musician, Sherina Sinna Munaf and Muhammad Bisri Mustofa, a creative director who designed the official The World of Ghibli Jakarta logo and the official posters of Studio Ghibli films which would be screened in Indonesia.
The World of Ghibli Jakarta would release all Studio Ghibli’s films theatrically in three phases. The first phase has been conducted on last April-September 2017 by screening Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo on the Cliff, Princess Mononoke, and Howl’s Moving Castle in Cinema XXI and CGV. The second phase is the film festival already held on last August-September 2017 along with the exhibition in CGV, and the third phase is from October and ends in March 2018. In the first and third phase, one Studio Ghibli’s film screened in each month in some big cities in Indonesia. Meanwhile, in the second phase, all Studio Ghibli’s films were screened in daily basis in conjunction with the exhibition.
The World of Ghibli Jakarta exhibition took place in The Ritz-Carlton Ballroom, Pacific Place held from August 10-September 17, 2017. In this event, the fans witnessed and experienced their favorite locations, objects, and characters from Studio Ghibli came to life. The exhibition featured famous Studio Ghibli’s films i.e. Laputa: Castle in the Sky, When Marnie Was There, Arrietty, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and Spirited Away. The visitors also learned about the history of Studio Ghibli and the filmmaking process including the original storyboards.
